Our Story

The story of Barney’s Biscuit Boxes started with Barney. Our rescue Labrador cross, born on a puppy farm, but saved, and found his forever home with us.

He inspired us to create our first product in 2014, our advent calendar for dogs. A different treat every day of advent for your dog, from some of the best known brands in the market producing high quality dog treats. We expanded into selection boxes that we sold throughout the year until 2017.

Then, Barney developed a food allergy and the journey to find the tastiest, most nutritious, and allergen free food and treats began – with the additional challenge of being able to satisfy the notorious food vacuum that is the Labrador (and make him chew!)

We researched and found a leading dog nutritionist – one who was ambitious and excited to work with us and with fresh ingredients (which isn’t usually done as ‘that’s not how it’s done’, ‘fresh ingredients make it too difficult to create a repeatable product’’. The testing process was long, detailed and challenging, but ultimately very successful and Barney’s own Biscuits were born.

We support dog rescues by donating a portion of our sales to dog rescues. We're also saving a portion of profit from every packet sold to help dogs rescued from puppy farms.

We spread awareness and campaign against the appalling puppy farming industry to help reduce the impact it has on dogs (and people).

We do this by creating dog biscuits. But not just any dog biscuits. Biscuits that are made with the finest ingredients, and the best ingredient of all, love – the same love you feel for your canine pride and joy. We are of the opinion, if you are not doing something to the best of your ability, you may as well pack up and go home!

We’re never at home… we’re working harder to produce a better product any way we can.

What drives us? Creating the best biscuit we possibly can. Not profit, not ease of production, only the health, welfare (and tastebuds) of the dogs we are proud to bake for.

As much as we can we will use UK ingredients, obviously some things such as coconut oil and bananas will come from warmer climates but apples, carrots, oats, flour and honey are all sourced from right here in Britain.

That has led us to create a biscuit that is unique in the market. Not only do we use fresh ingredients, we try and create biscuits that are a little bit different; Apple & Cheese, Blueberry & Honey and Carrot & Ginger. It’s great to speak to an owner who’s dog just gets to eat meat based products and then they see their dog gobble up our biscuits.

Helping dogs in need is  a big driver for us so we have a little fund of our own that receives 15p from each bag of biscuits we sell. We hope that one day we will be selling so many bags of biscuits that our fund will be able to pay for the veterinary expenses of dogs rescued from puppy farms.
